Career path & what success looks like
Your first year, measured
- In the first 90 days, tracking is clean across Search Console, GA4 and both ad platforms, your first campaigns are live, content is publishing on a schedule, and the first keywords start showing up
- By six months, Domain Rating is climbing, 50 or more keywords are ranking, and you can defend your cost per lead. Enquiries arrive without us chasing them
- By twelve months, organic and paid are both predictable lead channels for CueBytes, and the numbers are yours to answer for
Where this role goes
We're building the growth function from scratch, so there is room above this role. Here is roughly how it goes if you do the job well.
- Year 1
SEO & Ads Specialist, this role
You do the work yourself: content, on-page and technical fixes, backlinks, campaigns, reporting. You learn who buys software development and why, and you prove you can move rankings and bring in leads.
- Years 1-2
Senior Specialist
You write the roadmap instead of working through someone else's. You decide keyword priorities and how the ad budget gets split, run your own tests, and start briefing freelance writers and designers.
- Years 2-3
Growth Lead
Organic and paid are both yours. You hire and manage writers, link builders and a junior marketer, and you report on pipeline and revenue rather than traffic alone. You sit in on growth planning.
- Year 3+
Head of Growth
Everything above, plus email, conversion optimization and the whole client funnel. You answer for how much business comes through the door.
Adjacent paths
Not everyone wants to manage people. Two other directions are open.
- Technical SEO and web performance. Core Web Vitals, JS rendering, programmatic SEO, site architecture. We're a dev studio, so you'll have engineers beside you and a real codebase to work in.
- Performance marketing. Bigger budgets, creative testing, full-funnel attribution, and eventually running paid for clients as a service line.
What we invest in you
- Paid tool access, starting with Ahrefs and whatever else you can argue for
- A real ad budget to manage rather than a token test account
- Budget for courses and certifications
- You'll sit with the Flutter, React and Node.js developers, and can learn as much of the stack as you want
- Ownership from month one. The team is small enough that you won't wait your turn.
The tradeoff. We're a small studio, not a 200-person agency. There's no formal job ladder, and titles here follow results rather than time served. What you get instead is scope early: work at two years that would take five to reach at a bigger firm.
